Rewire interviewed Dr. Beal for their article “Hawaii Has an Opportunity to Improve Gender-Affirming Care Access,” originally published on 2/28/24.
While many states are making it harder to obtain gender affirming care, Hawaii has a bill in the legislature (HB 2079) that would allow telehealth prescriptions of testosterone in Hawaii, and that would create a new shield state in Hawaii.
HB 2079 is currently in the Hawaii House and has received recommendations to pass from the House Committee on Health & Homelessness, the House Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce, and the House Committee on Judiciary and Hawaiian Affairs. A special shout-out is due to the Hawaii Equality Caucus and Stonewall Democrats for their work on this bill.
