Join QueerDoc, Claudette Hunter Mobile Notary, Kristina Gibbs-Ruby (family attorney) at Wise Patient in the Madison Park neighborhood from 5:30PM PT to 7:30PM PT on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
QueerDoc’s founder, Dr. Crystal Beal, recognized the impact of all of the recent #SCOTUS rulings and felt it was very important for our community to have access to free support for legal protections. They facilitated this event so that our community could complete the necessary paperwork to have legally protected relationships and identities. QueerDoc wrote a fabulous blog about different documents that are important for protecting queer relationships. We are recommending these even if you are married to a partner currently. Ideally, you can use the links below to fill out the forms, print them and bring them with you. Alternatively, we are happy to support you in completing them onsite and printing them for you. For the people who can do it at home we highly encourage that as it will allow us to support more folx overall do to time constraints. You will be able to complete the following documents at this event:
- Legal transition paperwork (specifically a letter from a physician for social security transition and birth certificate needs)
- Advance Directives
- Living Wills
- Hospital Visitation Rights
- Washington State POLST Form
- Wills
- Powers of Attorney (medical and financial)
Wise Patient is located at 613 19th Ave E Suite 201, Seattle, WA 98112. There is a more accessible entrance through the alley. We look forward to seeing you there!
We are also recommending you and your chosen family get organized. Have a folder (paper and online) that contains you important documents, what to do in emergencies, and how to access each other’s important things. For example:
- Know how to unlock each other’s phones, computers, etc
- Have each other’s people to contact in case of emergency saved into your own phone
- Know how to access each other’s financial institutions (considering make each other join account holders)
- Know how to pay each other’s bills (housing, utilities, car, student loans, etc)
