When the Trump administration tried to intimidate us with a Department of Justice subpoena, QueerDoc refused to back down.
In June 2025, our small, trans- and queer-led telemedicine clinic was served a federal subpoena demanding confidential medical records for our patients. The subpoena sought deeply personal information — names, birthdates, diagnoses, even social security numbers — for trans people receiving medical care.
We knew immediately what this was: a political attack masquerading as an “investigation.” It was designed to frighten providers and patients, to discourage care, and to violate the trust that makes healthcare possible.
- We didn’t comply with this unlawfully issued subpoena.
- We didn’t share a single record, not one name, not one file.
- Instead, we went to court.
With the support of an extraordinary legal team and our loved ones, we fought back — and on October 27, 2025, a federal court ruled in QueerDoc’s favor.
U.S. District Judge Jamal N. Whitehead wrote:
“When a federal agency issues a subpoena not to investigate legal violations but to intimidate and coerce providers into abandoning lawful medical care, it exceeds its legitimate authority and abuses the judicial process.”
That’s exactly what this was: a calculated attempt by the Trump administration and Attorney General Pam Bondi to weaponize the Department of Justice against transgender people and the clinicians who care for them.
What This Means for You
💜 Care is still available.
QueerDoc continues to provide expert, affirming gender affirming medical care across our service area. This case never disrupted patient care.
🔒 Your records are safe.
We have never surrendered any patient information to the DOJ. None. Your privacy remains protected and secure.
⚖️ The ruling sets a powerful precedent.
The court affirmed that government power cannot be used to intimidate providers or breach the confidentiality of patients seeking medically necessary care. This is a win not just for QueerDoc, but for every clinician and patient fighting for the right to safe, private healthcare.
Why It Matters
QueerDoc isn’t a hospital with a PR department and legal division — we’re a small team of trans and queer clinicians working from laptops across the country. We exist because our communities deserve healthcare rooted in autonomy, consent, and joy — not fear.
This case was filed privately at first, to give our legal and security teams time to protect patients and plan our response. Now that the case has been made public, we’ll continue to share updates here if there’s an appeal or further developments.
This Fight Is Bigger Than Us
Our victory is one piece of a much larger struggle. The same systems that target trans people also target immigrants, Black and Indigenous communities, Palestinians, disabled people, and anyone whose existence challenges white supremacy and corporate power.
Transphobia, xenophobia, and antisemitism are political tools — distractions used to divide people and deflect anger away from those hoarding wealth and destroying the planet. While politicians manufacture moral panic about gender and migration, they quietly dismantle environmental protections, funnel money to war, and protect billionaires from paying taxes.
When the government attacks trans care, bans books, criminalizes abortion, or funds genocide abroad, it’s all part of the same project: keeping people afraid and disconnected, so we don’t realize how powerful we are together.
Our liberation is intertwined. The fight for trans rights is bound up with the fight for immigrant justice, Indigenous sovereignty, Black lives, reproductive freedom, and Palestinian liberation. Every struggle for life, land, and dignity shares the same heartbeat — the belief that every person deserves to exist safely and freely in their body and community.
Our Commitment
We will always do everything in our power to honor the sacred trust our patients and communities place in us — to protect your privacy, prioritize your safety, and keep showing up for your care no matter who tries to stop us.
This ruling is more than a courtroom victory. It’s proof that care, truth, and community can stand up to cruelty and win. Healthcare is not a weapon — it’s a tool in the fight for human rights.
With gratitude, pride, and power,
💜 The QueerDoc Team
